Russia is systematically using UN mechanisms to expand its own propaganda network in Africa, the Main Intelligence Directorate reported.

Russia spreads propaganda in Africa thanks to the UN

It is noted that in January 2026, the Russian Permanent Mission to UNESCO announced a voluntary contribution of $250,000 to the International Program for the Development of Communications (IPDC).

The official purpose of the contribution, however, did not reflect the Kremlin’s true intentions. Formally, the funds were directed towards goals consistent with UNESCO’s mandate: developing independent journalism, combating online violence, and increasing media literacy among the population. In practice, funding under the IPDC provides the donor with leverage — in particular, the ability to shape the content of projects, determine thematic priorities, and ideological emphases.

Intelligence officials believe that Russia used this tool to purposefully influence the African media environment — launching a campaign to impose favorable narratives.

The Russian Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Rinat Alyautdinov, has publicly emphasized the “priority of Africa” in the Kremlin’s programs. During 2026–2027, projects to form a pro-Russian information space are planned to be implemented in Malawi, Mali, Ghana, Kenya, and Senegal.

It is emphasized that in the broader context of the strategy of supporting loyal regimes, Moscow seeks to turn the IPDC program and similar initiatives into a tool for promoting the necessary narratives and constructing an alternative, pro-Russian picture of the world.

The Hill spoke with various military analysts and concluded that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have indeed been able to turn the tide on the battlefield, giving them a chance to win the war again. However, this is almost impossible to do without strong support from their allies.

Ukraine has once again won a chance to win, but there is a “but”

A statement on this issue was made by George Barros, an analyst at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

He drew attention to the fact that for the first time in the last 3 years, the Ukrainian Defense Forces were able to recapture more territory than the Russian army.

According to military analysts, the war has entered a new phase.

In fact, it means that Kyiv is already doing everything possible to break the deadlock on the front.

As is known, in recent years, neither Ukrainian troops nor Russian invaders have been able to achieve significant breakthroughs on the battlefield, but now there is a chance to finally do so.

Another important advantage for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is that they have finally learned to stop new offensives by the Russian army.

This shift had been in the works for months, starting in late 2025, when the Ukrainians began striking Russian ground-based radars, electronic warfare stations, anti-aircraft missiles, and drones, effectively blinding Moscow's forces, Barros stressed.

As reported by The Bell, the situation in the Russian IT industry is rapidly deteriorating, as the country's five leading companies are unable to pay their debts - they have already reached two trillion rubles.

Russian IT giants are experiencing a new large-scale crisis

According to data from The Bell , during 2025, the debt of five Russian big tech companies jumped by as much as 53% — to 2 trillion rubles.

This is also evidenced by the data in the report of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation on the state of the financial system.

Frank Media was the first to draw attention to this. Moreover, debts are growing faster than assets: last year they increased by 48%, to 4.6 trillion rubles.

It is unknown which companies were included in this anti-rating, as the Central Bank does not name them. But judging by the regulator's description, the top 5 in terms of debt definitely include marketplaces Wildberries and Ozon, journalists emphasize.

Swedish Gripen fighters will not change the situation on the front instantly, but the Meteor missiles on board are capable of pushing Russian aircraft away from the Ukrainian borders.

What Meteor missiles can do for the front

Yuriy Ignat, head of the communications department of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said this during a telethon.

He urged caution with the term "game changer," as any weapon must first be tested in real combat conditions. He cited as an example the F-16 fighter jets, which were also expected to undergo rapid changes, but Ukraine received somewhat outdated modifications of these aircraft.

A similar situation, he said, exists with Gripen. Ukraine is expected to receive C/D modification aircraft, which are an older version.

At the same time, Iinat explained, "Gripens" have significant advantages: they are unpretentious in use, capable of landing on various types of runways, and are the cheapest in their class in terms of operating costs.

The "crazy world" shaped by US President Donald Trump and China is forcing Norway to reconsider its relations with the EU.

Norway is considering joining the EU

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Espen Barth Eide.

Norway, Europe's leading oil and gas producer, is part of the EU's single market but remains outside the bloc. Norwegians have twice opposed membership over fears that their fishing industry would be disadvantaged if it were governed by Brussels. Fish products are Norway's biggest export sector after fossil fuels.

"We said 'no' (in the referendum — ed.) in 1972 because of fish, and again in 1994, it was mainly because of fish. Fish and agriculture," Eide noted.

He acknowledged that the "safe world" that existed during the accession referendums had changed to a "crazy world," forcing Oslo to reconsider its relationship with the bloc.

This “crazy world,” given what is happening between China and the US, is forcing the EU to use tools from an arsenal that it has not been so active in before, he said, referring to trade policy and the customs union. “The very tools that we have decided not to join.”

The US tariff wars have highlighted Norway's awkward position as the country is part of the single market but has no say in trade negotiations with Washington, which are led by the European Commission.

Norway is a NATO member, but Trump's push to take control of Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark, which is also a NATO member, has raised concerns in Oslo about the US security guarantees that have underpinned the continent's defences since World War II. Norway is also concerned about the future of the island of Svalbard, which is claimed by Russia.

The EU’s increased focus on defense and security issues following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has made the bloc more attractive not only to Norway but also to other single market and NATO members such as Iceland, which Trump has repeatedly confused with Greenland, will hold a referendum in August on whether to resume accession talks.

Although influential figures such as Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Eide support Norway joining the EU, the Norwegian Labor Party opposes calls for a new referendum, as opinion polls show that a majority of voters would still reject membership in the bloc.

Norway's oil and gas wealth has created a sense of independence in many people, Eide noted.

"There is a perception of economic independence that contributes to a sense of power. If there were a referendum tomorrow, I would vote yes ... but that doesn't mean that now is the time to demand a referendum," Eide concluded.

Now, he said, it is necessary to honestly acknowledge the shortcomings of our current system.

The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Dmytro Lubinets, reminds the world of the consequences of Russia's deliberate and targeted ecocide. He made a statement on this occasion on World Environment Day.

Russian ecocide leads to terrible consequences

Dmytro Lubinets reminds the world that for over 12 years, Russia has been waging war against Ukraine, destroying everything living in its path.

As the Ombudsman noted, the enemy deliberately targeted Ukrainian nature, deliberately disregarding the right of every person to a safe environment.

He also emphasized that the amount of losses from 2022 alone is truly shocking — 6.9 trillion hryvnias.

What is important to understand: of these, almost 4 trillion are destroyed and damaged nature reserves, and about 2 trillion are contaminated soils.

But behind these numbers is something that cannot be measured in money. This is a stolen summer on the Black Sea, where oil spills over an area of up to 800 square kilometers are destroying marine ecosystems due to shelling of ports. It is a basic human right to have access to clean water. Suffice it to recall the Russian attack on the Dniester hydroelectric power station, when an oil leak threatened the drinking water supply for hundreds of thousands of people in Ukraine and Moldova.

A growing number of British officials and experts are suggesting that Russia is deliberately increasing pressure on the UK, perhaps preparing for a more serious escalation. The warnings have been issued by former Chief of Defence Staff Lord Peach and the head of the House of Lords National Resilience Committee Baroness Cassins.

Britain is not ready for a clash with Russia

According to Lord Peach, official London must recognize the vulnerabilities of Britain's critical infrastructure, primarily submarine cables.

What is important to understand is that they provide Internet connectivity, financial transactions, and data exchange.

The country's former chief of defense staff draws attention to the fact that Russia is a direct threat to the country's stability.

The head of the House of Lords National Resilience Committee, Baroness Cassins, also shared her data.

She made it clear that Britain is already under a barrage of Russian attacks, and the situation can only get worse.

"This is not a question of 'what if'. It's already happening. We are being attacked every day," Cassins said, also mentioning the activities of so-called proxies linked to Russia and Iran.

Foreign journalists are dissecting Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's new speech at an economic forum in St. Petersburg, concluding that the Kremlin leader is completely unaware of the realities of the Russian-Ukrainian war and is behaving very strangely — it's "scaring the living daylights out of him."

Recent events on the international stage indicate that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has lost another close ally, namely Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The latter has decided to choose a pro-Ukrainian course. This is the conclusion of Gonul Tol, a senior fellow at the Middle East Institute.

Turkey is ready to strengthen relations with Ukraine

According to Gonul Tol, the cooperation between Erdogan and Putin is finally reaching its logical conclusion.

Instead, official Ankara is beginning a new stage of relations with Kyiv.

Within its framework, the Turkish president is actively helping Ukraine strengthen its positions in the region, where Russia previously dominated.

The expert draws attention to the fact that during the Syrian war, Putin and Erdogan found themselves on different sides of the barricades: Turkey helped the rebels who sought to overthrow the regime of Bashar Assad, while Russia supported the Syrian dictator.

However, even this did not spoil the relationship between the Turkish and Russian presidents. The situation began to change dramatically after February 24, 2022.

Due to international isolation, Moscow has become increasingly dependent on Turkey, which has not joined Western sanctions. As a result, Ankara has become an important hub for Russian trade, investment, and energy flows, gaining additional leverage over the Kremlin.

If Erdogan was previously Putin's "junior" partner, now the situation has turned 180 degrees.

This is a big moment for Turkey — an opportunity to rethink its role as a key NATO ally, rebalance relations with Russia, and help Ukraine establish new ties in the Middle East, the expert emphasizes.

It took Ukraine a year and a half to finally create its own powerful weapon against Russian KABs, dubbed the Equalizer. This means that the Defense Forces no longer have to wait for supplies from Western allies.

The leaders of Ukraine and Russia should meet face to face without the presence of a mediator, said US President Donald Trump, commenting on an open letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Putin.

Well, I don't mind. I mean, let them negotiate. I'm the one who got them to this position. And I think it will be resolved. I think we're getting closer to where Russia and Ukraine should... [make peace].

On June 5, 1 Separate Center of the SBS (14th Regiment) officially announced that it was able to take control of Donetsk Airport. What is important to understand is that Ukrainian soldiers conducted the first operation of this type in modern history.

DAP is already under fire control of the SBS

According to the defenders, the Russian invaders have turned the DAP into a military logistics hub and a key launch site for Shahed attack UAVs.

As of today, the SBS are actively destroying the infrastructure of the Russian army, making the operation of the airfield impossible.

Every day, launchers, transport vehicles, and crews directly on the runway are hit by the forces of unmanned systems.

In addition, it is indicated that a systematic hunt for enemy mobile fire groups and air defenses is being carried out in parallel — this is what is forcing the Russians to cancel sorties.

One of the main tasks of the SBS is the total degradation of the airfield ecosystem. As part of this operation, it has already been possible to destroy Shahed installations, construction cranes, automotive equipment, and enemy property warehouses.

The statement has already been made by Serafim "Falko" Gordienko, an officer of the 1st Separate Center of the SBS (14th Regiment), who is responsible for planning the operation:

The fire control of the DAP, which was carried out by the 1st OC, is an example of an asymmetric operation in which the enemy's operational-strategic plans were disrupted by exceptionally small forces. This is what makes us who we are.
