What are the benefits of strengthening Ukraine's energy security, Mariia Bezverkha, the winner of the Essay Contest on energy security, which was held by the USAID Energy Security Project (ESP), shared in her essay with online.ua.
The energy security of Ukraine is an important aspect of the life for each Ukrainian as well as of future generations. It means that our country should have sufficient access to energy resources to meet the needs of its citizens and economy. For Ukraine and for many other countries, it means ensuring a reliable supply of gas, electricity, oil, and other types of energy to meet domestic needs. It also means that these energy supplies should be stable, reliable, and safe for the environment.
Strengthening the energy security of Ukraine has several key advantages. First, it guarantees the independence of the country from external energy supplies and can reduce its exposure to geopolitical conflicts and economic fluctuations in the global market. Second, it promotes the creation of new jobs and the developing domestic production capacity, which increases the economic growth of the country. Third, increasing the utilization of renewable energy sources can help decrease the impact of our activity on the environment, because its important/critical to preserve nature/the environment/health of nature for future generations.
Personally, for me, strengthening Ukraine’s energy security is important as it concerns my future growth and life. The stability and reliability of the energy sector influences the economy, social sector, and ecology of the country and directly impacts my wellbeing and quality of life.
What can I do to strengthen the energy security of Ukraine?
Although I am a student, I can make my own contribution to strengthening the energy security of Ukraine. Below there are several ways I can help my country:
First, conscious consumption and energy saving.
Second, support renewable energy sources, decreasing dependence on coal and gas imports.
Third, education and awareness through participation in educational programs and events focused on increasing the awareness of citizens in terms ofnergy saving and the sustainable use of energy.
All these actions is my contribution to strengthening the energy security of Ukraine and improving the quality of citizens’ lives.
