US President Joe Biden blamed Iran-backed groups for the attack on the US military.

"While we are still gathering facts about this attack, we know it was carried out by radical militant groups supported by Iran that operate in Syria and Iraq," he said.

The death of the military was the first case of the death of American servicemen in the region since the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip. According to Biden, the attack happened on Saturday night.

"We will continue to fulfill their commitments to fight terrorism. And have no doubt — we will bring to justice all those responsible at the time and in the way we choose," the president said.

At the same time, Biden did not specify how many servicemen were injured.

Attacks on the US military

On January 20, US service members were lightly wounded and an Iraqi security forces member was seriously wounded in an attack on Iraq's Ain al-Asad Air Base. The strike was carried out using ballistic weapons.

Since the war between Israel and Hamas began last October, US troops have been attacked at least 58 times in Iraq and another 83 times in Syria by Iran-backed militants, usually with missiles and attack drones.
