The Bulgarian authorities have decided to invest 6 billion euros in infrastructure, which will make it possible to quickly deploy NATO forces on the eastern flank, if the need arises.

NATO still allows for a possible aggravation of the situation on the eastern flank

According to the head of the Ministry of Defense, Todor Tagarev, as of today, a multinational NATO battle group under Italian command is stationed on his country's territory. It means about a thousand soldiers.

He also added that they intend to increase the contingent by another 500 people and build a military base for NATO needs in the south of Bulgaria, making it possible to form a brigade.

The deployment of a multinational NATO battle group on our territory has been discussed dozens or hundreds of times. During my visit to the United States (last week), we talked about how best to provide the necessary infrastructure as a host country and how the United States can help us so we can use available international co-financing funds for its construction, Todor Tagarev noted .

As mentioned earlier, official Sofia recently signed a bilateral agreement with the US on the joint use of four Bulgarian military bases.

The head of the Bulgarian Defense Ministry also suggested that all the combat groups from the countries of the eastern flank of NATO could grow to brigade combat groups — that is, up to about 5,000 people.

This will happen when needed, we don’t have a clear timetable at the moment. We have to be ready to provide the conditions when it happens, the minister explained.

NATO continues to deny the bloc's preparations for war with Russia

The international community was recently excited by an article in the German publication Bild that the Alliance had already started preparing for war with Russia.

The head of NATO's Center of Excellence for Strategic Communications, Janis Sarts, immediately denied these data.

The bloc representative claims that the journalists received only an educational script.

The scenarios used to be completely made up with non-existent countries and geographic regions. Now it is more appropriate to use existing countries and geographical regions, the NATO representative explained.
