Japan allocates $37 million to help Ukraine. They will be sent to purchase drone detection systems.
What is known about Japan's new aid to Ukraine
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Yoko Kamikawa, during a briefing with the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, noted that her visit to Kyiv shows Japan's support for Ukraine. Therefore, as part of the aid, her country will help purchase drone detection systems.
In addition, to help Ukrainians survive the winter, Japan provided five mobile gas turbine generators and seven transformers. The head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry will officially hand over this equipment today.
The minister also expressed support for Ukrainian education, health care, and the construction of shelters for women and children.
Japanese aid to Ukraine
On January 7, it became known that Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa arrived in Kyiv. In Ukraine, she met with her Ukrainian colleague Dmytro Kuleba and visited Bucha and Irpin. It should be noted that the ministers' joint briefing took place in a shelter, as an air alert was declared in Kyiv at that time.
At the end of December, our country's state budget received about $950 million from Japan as part of World Bank projects for recovery and social protection.
Also, on December 7, 2023, Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida announced his country's readiness to allocate $4.5 billion for Ukraine. The funds will be directed to the country's recovery from the consequences of Russian aggression.
