Radio Liberty analysed a video shot from an Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) drone near Robotyn. It shows the Russian army chasing Ukrainian soldiers on the battlefield, actually hiding behind them.

Ukrainian Armed Forces prisoners of war became human shields for the occupiers

Radio Liberty received a nearly 19-minute video from a soldier of one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fighting in Zaporizhzhia region. It was filmed from a drone in the suburb of Robotyn. The journalists checked that the filming location really exists on one of the village's plantations.

The video shows Russian soldiers periodically firing automatic weapons towards Ukrainian positions. One of the Russian army soldiers is covered by a captured Ukrainian serviceman.

According to the Ukrainian defenders who provided this video, it is a so-called "battlefield reconnaissance" to detect firearms at the positions of the AFU.

The battle begins a grenade probably exploded near a group of Russian soldiers and unarmed prisoners.

Then the Russians decided to retreat. The prisoners began to run in the opposite direction from the positions of the AFU, and the occupiers followed them. Then one of them shot several times in the direction of one of the unarmed prisoners of war. Subsequently, it was seen that the body of a soldier in the uniform of the AFU was already lying on the ground.

Currently, the Ukrainian military has no information on the fate of the prisoners in the video.

According to the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine (DIU), the forces of the 234th Air Assault Regiment of the Russian army are fighting in this area.

Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said in a commentary to Radio Liberty that it is prohibited to use prisoners of war to participate in hostilities. After being granted official status, prisoners should be held in a specially created camp away from the fighting and wait for an exchange.

If this is true (the events in the video did take place - ed.), it will be an officially established fact of violation of another Geneva Convention by the Russian Federation. This is the first such video I have seen. I did not have such data.

Evidence of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the occupiers was presented to the UN

It is noted that representatives of the UN Human Rights Office recorded 6 cases of extrajudicial executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war by criminals from the Russian army.

They also confirmed the authenticity of the video, which shows a Ukrainian prisoner of war being shot after saying "Glory to Ukraine".

The authenticity of the video showing the beheading of a Ukrainian prisoner of war was confirmed.

The report, published by the UN, contains information for the period from 1 February to 31 July.

In total, the UN has documented the execution of at least six Ukrainian prisoners of war, which could have taken place before 1 February this year.

Since then, the UN has not recorded a single case of execution.
