If Donald Trump comes to power in the United States, he will be ready to give North Korea the opportunity to keep its nuclear weapons and remove sanctions from it.

Trump is considering a plan that would allow North Korea to keep its nuclear weapons and offer the regime financial incentives to stop producing new bombs, the report said.

It said the move would mark a sharp departure from his previous stance on the issue and a shift toward concessions to North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, with whom Trump has developed an extremely friendly relationship during his time in power.

Politico writes that Trump may be willing to give up even trying to convince Kim Jong Un to destroy his country's nuclear weapons if he wins the 2024 presidential election.

Trump may see arms talks as futile - and instead focus on the broader task of competing with China.

One of the newspaper's interlocutors said that Trump is very interested in concluding an agreement with North Korea.

One idea Trump is mulling would be to get North Korea to freeze its nuclear program and stop developing new weapons in exchange for relief from economic sanctions and some other form of aid, people briefed on the matter said.

It would also require a verification system to ensure that North Korea lives up to its word.

It's possible that Trump could still pursue denuclearization as a long-term goal, but making even a short-term deal with North Korea that doesn't explicitly say so would be a departure from standard U.S. policy, Politico added.
