President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that the massive Russian missile strike on 29 December killed 39 civilians and injured 159.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that 39 people were killed and 159 others were injured in a massive missile attack by Russia on 29 December.

A total of 159 people were injured in the attack. Unfortunately, 39 of them were killed to date. My condolences to the families and friends, President said.

The Head of State noted that all the wounded and injured are being provided with the necessary assistance.

Zelenskyy noted that work is still underway in Ukraine to eliminate the consequences of yesterday's Russian attack. Almost 120 towns and villages and hundreds of civilian objects were damaged.

The President also thanked world leaders, politicians and public figures who condemned the Russian attack.

Weapons in the hands of Ukrainians are always a defence of life, and every manifestation of Russian terror proves again and again that we cannot delay in helping those who stand up to terror. We all have to defeat terror together, Zelenskyy added.

Massive attack on Ukraine: what is known

On 29 December, Russia launched 158 missiles of various types and attack drones on Ukraine. Air defence forces shot down 27 Shaheds and 87 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles.

Explosions were recorded in Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Lviv and Dnipro regions. Residential buildings, a shopping centre, a maternity hospital and critical infrastructure facilities were shelled.

In Kyiv, as of 30 December, 16 people were killed in the enemy attack. The rubble of a warehouse in the Shevchenkivskyi district continues to be cleared.

In Kyiv, 1 January will be declared a day of mourning. Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro and Odesa also declared a day of mourning for the victims.
