SKY GATE bulk carrier moved through the Ukrainian "grain corridor" with 25,000 tons of humanitarian wheat for Nigeria.

What is known about the ship that left for Nigeria

The Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure noted that this is the first ship this year chartered by the UN World Food Program as part of the Grain From Ukraine program.

More than 15 million tons of Ukrainian grain cargoes were exported from the ports of Great Odesa for half a year. And we are resuming the supply of humanitarian wheat as part of the Grain From Ukraine program for countries on the brink of famine, said Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine.

What is known about the "humanitarian corridor" in the Black Sea

In August, Ukraine announced a "humanitarian corridor" to free ships bound for African and Asian markets and to bypass Russia's de facto blockade after Moscow reneged on a deal that guaranteed its wartime exports.

The Navy and the Armed Forces announced the opening of a temporary corridor that can be used by all civilian vessels, particularly those in the ports of Odesa.

Ukraine proposed this route in its appeal to the International Maritime Organisation. These are ships that have been stuck in Ukrainian ports since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
