The German authorities have officially confirmed that, following the United States, Britain and several other countries, they have temporarily suspended funding for the United Nations Middle East Agency for Relief and Works for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Just now, an investigation is underway into the role of the agency's employees in the large-scale attack on Israel by the terrorist organization Hamas on October 7, 2023.

It all started after Israel provided evidence to Western countries about the alleged involvement of 12 UNRWA employees in financing the terrorist organization.

Switzerland, which contributes about 20 million Swiss francs ($23 million) to UNRWA annually, also announced a similar decision. According to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country on Saturday, January 27, the decision on the payment in 2024 will not be made until the situation surrounding the allegations is clarified.

The authorities of the Netherlands also do not hide that they were "extremely shocked" by the accusations against the agency's employees for participating in the attack on Israel.

The accusation is that the attack was carried out on October 7 on the money of the UN, on our money, the Western countries are indignant.

How the UN reacts to accusations of financing terrorism

As the head of the UN agency, Philippe Lazzarini, said recently, he considers a large number of countries' decision to suspend the agency's funding "shocking" and called for it to be reconsidered.

Lazzarini assures that the lives of people in the Gaza Strip and regional stability depend on this support.

In addition, according to him, several employees suspected of involvement in the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7 have been released. They are being investigated.
