Journalists of the Bloomberg publication published details regarding the 13th package of EU sanctions against Russia for the unleashed criminal war against Ukraine.

What is known about the new EU sanctions package against the Russian Federation

According to the publication, it is planned to introduce restrictions against 55 companies associated with the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and more than 60 individuals.

It is noted that sanctions will be announced against companies, enterprises and individuals who produce weapons and supplies to Russia of critical technologies for the defence sector.

Sanctions should also affect shipping companies that transport ammunition to Russia from North Korea.

Restrictions are proposed against officials, politicians, and company directors.

Among them is the name of Oleksiy Dyumin, a former bodyguard of Putin, who currently holds the post of governor of the Tula region.

All EU member states must approve these proposals.

Why is the new sanctions package called the weakest?

The European Commission will propose a 13th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, including visa bans and asset freezes for hundreds of people but without any new import bans.

Radio Liberty journalist Rikard Jozwiak reported that the 13th package of sanctions would be the weakest of all.

According to the journalist, the package will include visa bans and freezing assets of about 250 individuals and organizations.

Reuters, citing unnamed EU diplomats, writes that the package will not include any new import bans.

Some EU countries are calling for a ban on more Russian exports, such as aluminium. Still, the Commission will propose a package that will cause minimal debate among member states to be quickly adopted by February 24.

The package will also expand the list of Russian companies to which EU firms cannot sell dual-purpose goods.

The sources added that once the 13th sanctions package is approved, the Commission will quickly propose a 14th package, which could include some new import bans.

The EU has already banned the import of primary goods, such as Russian oil import by sea and, more recently, diamonds.
