A new section of the tunnel will be built between the Kyiv metro stations "Demiivska" and "Lybidska" instead of the emergency one. The works are planned to be completed in the fall of 2024.

Repair of the underground tunnel in Kyiv

Maksym Shkil, the founder of the company "Avtostrada", which carries out repair work in the subway, said three groups of designers are developing the tunnel reconstruction project.

In December 2013, the movement of trains on the section between these stations was stopped due to flooding and the appearance of cracks on the tunnel frame-blocks. There was a risk of collapse.

The school writes that after carrying out the necessary surveys and research, it was decided to dismantle the emergency section of the tunnel (the length of which is about 27 m) and build a new monolithic tunnel at this place.

We plan to complete the restoration of the distillation tunnel between the Demiivska and Lybidska stations in the fall of 2024.

The school added that last December, the company stabilised the tunnel structure from the inside with the help of special metal scaffolding.

Currently, piles are being drilled, on top of which a relief plate will be made to minimise the load on the tunnel.

A drilling rig will operate on this slab, drilling a wall into the soil-like piles to prevent water from entering the pit.

Closure of metro stations in Kyiv

On December 8, 2023, the KCSA announced the closure of Demiivska, Holosiivska, Vasylkivska, Exhibition Center, Ipodrom, and Teremky stations.

On December 13, a shuttle service was launched in the area of closed stations.

The prosecutor's office started a pre-trial investigation into the flooding of the tunnels of the Kyiv subway on the Obolonsko-Teremkivska line.

The case is being investigated for official negligence that has severe consequences (Chapter 2 of Article 367 of Ukraine's Criminal Code).
