An official of a mobile company in Dnipro leaked the geolocation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine into a Russian intelligence chatbot. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

What is known about the detention of the agent of the Russian Federation

According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), the Russian agent was detained in April 2022 in Dnipro.

He turned out to be a technical specialist at one of the leading mobile operators in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the official scouted the locations of the headquarters and air defence systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the territory of the regional centre.

He also tried to track possible railway routes for transporting Ukrainian military equipment to the eastern front.

At the same time, the agent collected information about the consequences of Russian air strikes on the city's infrastructure to readjust enemy strikes.

He transmitted the information he received to the occupiers through a specialized chatbot of the military intelligence of the aggressor country in the form of media files with markings of Ukrainian objects on an electronic map.

During counter-sabotage measures, the SSU officers located the attacker. They detained the suspect in his apartment when he was preparing for a new communication "session" with the Russian military intelligence (known by its former abbreviation — GRU).

What is the term of the Russian agent?

According to the SSU materials, the court sentenced him to 15 years in prison.

As the investigation established, a "mobile" company employee in Dnipro was remotely recruited by a staff member of the Russian GRU at the end of February 2022.

The occupiers involved the Dnipro resident in tacit cooperation through their chatbot, where they gathered intelligence data on the deployment and movement of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

During the searches, a mobile phone was found in the detainee's possession, which he used for intelligence and subversive activities against Ukraine.

Based on the collected evidence, the court found the intruder guilty under Chapter 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).
