European Parliament announced its final decision on the start of negotiations for accession of Ukraine to the EU

Roberta Metsola

The speaker of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, stated the conference of presidents of the European Parliament is in favour of the European Council, confirming the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.

European Parliament adopted a favourable decision for Ukraine

Roberta Metsola draws attention to the fact that the "Conference of Presidents" is a body that unites the leadership of the European Parliament and all political groups.

On November 28, the "Conference of Presidents" held talks with the Verkhovna Rada speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk.

The EP speaker and her team concluded that Ukraine is making impressive efforts to implement all the necessary reforms.

And the conference of presidents of the European Parliament confirmed today that Ukraine has demonstrated a solid basis for opening accession negotiations, Roberta Metsola noted.

The politician once again reminded that the process of the country's accession to the European Union is not only the transfer of European laws and regulations into the national legislation, and the specified path requires Ukrainians to make radical changes in society.

Ukraine will remain a priority for the European Parliament

The leadership of the European Union hopes that the Ukrainian authorities will continue to ambitiously implement all the necessary reforms to complete the implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission and start accession negotiations as soon as possible.

Ukraine is and will remain a priority for the European Parliament. Ukraine can count on continuous efforts and our readiness to support the legitimate ambitions and aspirations of the Ukrainian people. Leaders of political groups plan to strengthen cooperation with the Verkhovna Rada in 2024, including by means of inter-committee meetings and familiarization visits, the European Parliament said in an official statement.
