On the Day of the Unity of Ukraine, activists of the "Yellow Ribbon" movement set up a Ukrainian flag in the temporarily occupied Makiivka in the Donetsk region.
A blue-yellow flag flew in the occupied Makiivka
Activists placed a blue-yellow flag near the "Sonyachnyi" district of Makiivka in the Donetsk region, which has been under occupation since 2014.
By the way, in the spring of 2022, with the beginning of the Russian occupation of Kherson, the city's residents resisted the Russian military. The symbol of resistance became a yellow ribbon, which the townspeople hung in different parts of the regional centre. On November 11, 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated Kherson.
Meanwhile, pro-Ukrainian activists continue their underground protest in the temporarily occupied Crimea, in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions.
The President of Ukraine addressed Ukrainians on the Day of Unity
Every year on January 22, an important holiday for Ukraine is celebrated — the Day of Unity. On this day in 1919, the Act of Unification was proclaimed between the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic.
In honour of this holiday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed Ukrainians. The head of state noted that only strong Ukrainians can become united.
Zelensky emphasised that, since 1990, Ukrainians have created living chains of unity by paying tribute to the unity of Ukraine. Ukrainian unity stretches from west to east.
Zelenskyy also mentioned those Ukrainians who are currently in the temporarily occupied territories and continue to resist. The President emphasised that together, we will force Russia to leave, and the words of the Unity Act about the unification of parts of our country separated from each other will be heard again and become a reality.
