Special attention was paid to a new type of troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine — the Unmanned Systems Forces.
We are waiting for new solutions, generalisation of experience. And most importantly — technical tasks for the development of new samples. Those that will create a strategic advantage for us tomorrow. Thanks to Colonel General for the meaningful meeting! — concluded the Minister of Defense.
Change of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
On February 8, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced in an evening video message that he dismissed Valerii Zaluzhnyi from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Instead of Zaluzhnyi, the head of state appointed Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi to this position. He believes that 2024 can be successful for Ukraine only if there are practical changes in the basis of the defence.
Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to the head of the president's office, explained that the president's decision to systematically renew the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including the Commander-in-chief, was necessary for several reasons.
This step, in particular, was caused by the need to review the tactics of actions, which "did not fully provide the proper result last year.
Among the reasons for Zaluzhnyi's dismissal is the failure to submit a military plan for 2024, The Times wrote. Also, the general directly negotiated with the allies to supply weapons and excluded the Ministry of Defence from this process.
On February 8, Zelenskyy signed a decree awarding General Valerii Zaluzhnyi the title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Golden Star Order. The general was awarded for outstanding personal merits in the defense of Ukraine's state sovereignty and territorial integrity and selfless service to the Ukrainian people.
