On February 16, the commander of OSTG "Tavria", Gen Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, officially confirmed that Ukrainian defenders are withdrawing from the "Zenith" position on the southeastern outskirts of Avdiivka.

According to him, after many months of confrontation, the OSTG command decided to withdraw from the "Zenith" position on the southeastern outskirts of Avdiivka.
We held this position as long as it allowed us to restrain and destroy the enemy effectively. The decision to leave was made to preserve personnel and improve the operational situation.

Oleksandr Tarnavsky attains that tactically occupying these positions does not give the enemy a strategic advantage or change the situation within the Avdiivka defence operation.
The commander notes that regrouping troops, replenishing supplies, and arrangement of units in new positions are underway. There is a planned strengthening of units.

Zelenskyy commented on the fighting in Avdiivka
According to the head of state, he knows what is happening in the city and is in contact with our military leadership.
I will not say what new approaches they use. Their task is to do everything to protect, above all, our people. This is the main signal from me, our military is the most important thing we have, and it is our most important weapon, — said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
By the way, on February 16, it became known that the Russian army used phosphorus in Avdiivka against Ukrainian soldiers.
In addition, it is known that the use of aerial bombs has increased.
