AFU officer says Russia concentrates over 70,000 troops on the Dnipro's left bank

Russian Federation

The total number of Russian occupation troops on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions is estimated to be over 70,000 personnel.

What is the situation on the left bank of the Dnipro

The joint press centre chief of the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine, Colonel Nataliya Humenyuk, reported the situation on the left bank of the Dnipro is challenging; in particular, the dynamics of enemy assaults are exhausting.

If the day before last there were only three attempts of assault actions, then last year they intensified to 13 such attempts. However, the tradition of non-use (by the enemy) of armored vehicles still remains. They are trying to save it until those moments when there will be more powerful work from our side, — Humenyuk said.

In addition, the occupiers are constantly changing both quantitatively and qualitatively. Because, suffering from unsuccessful assault actions, they lose up to 70% of personnel in each assault group.

Currently, the enemy grouping on the left bank (Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions) is estimated to be over 70,000 personnel and hundreds of weapons and equipment.

But not all of them are concentrated directly along the front line, but are also located in the deeper rear, from where they are pulled up as an additional resource," Humenyuk added.

What limits the advance of the Russian army on the Dnipro's left bank

On January 16, 2024, a representative of the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine noted that logistical and technical supplies on the left bank of the Dnipro River encountered difficulties.

Russia's Dniepr Troops Group has been unsuccessful in all its attempts to dislodge the Ukrainian defenders, despite almost certainly having a significant balance of power advantage on this axis. It is likely that the weak preparation and coordination of the actions of the Russian troops in this area limits their offensive capabilities, — British intelligence said.

The military noted that forcing Ukraine to withdraw its forces from the left bank of the Dnieper remains a priority operational task for Russia.

It is likely that Russia will continue its attacks in the Krynka region in the coming weeks, despite the growing losses in personnel, the report said.
