AFU answers about the Russian Navy's new naval drone threat to civilian vessels

Marine drone

The Armed Forces of Ukraine do not rule out danger to civilian vessels from the new naval drone of the Russian Federation. We are talking about the "Dandelion" shock drone.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces named the probable threats of the new Russian naval drone for civilian vessels

Realizing that we are dealing with a terrorist country, it cannot be ruled out that such drones will be used against civilian ships as well, the joint coordination press center spokeswoman of the Southern Defense Forces Nataliya Gumenyuk noted.

According to her, this scenario is quite probable because the Russian Federation has made statements about the fact that if shipping with Ukrainian ports continues, they will be perceived as legitimate military targets.

Humenyuk reported that the Russians constantly tried to find a reason to accuse civilian shipping of supplying cargo of a military nature, but all these claims were always equally baseless.

Today, we can state that the navigation corridor is functioning, despite the difficulties we are facing, including constant stormy weather and an increase in mine threats, the spokeswoman said.

However, she immediately assured that, despite this, the defence forces control the maximum safe passage of vessels in the territorial sea of Ukraine with further access to international waters.

Summing up the above, Humenyuk added that the Russians, despite their apparent desire to strengthen their air defence in occupied Crimea, do not have such an opportunity.

Their anti-aircraft defense is now of the colander type, that is, there are many holes. And it is necessary to cover with something, that is why they are maneuvering, - she noted.

What is known about the new maritime drone of the Russian Federation "Dandelion"

Recently, the Russian Federation presented the first over-water kamikaze drone called "Dandelion", created by the KMZ company. The product is designed similarly to the Ukrainian Sea Baby and Magura UAV surface boats. Still, several critical differences in the Russian model may indicate that it should perform other tasks.

Earlier, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine reported that the Russian invaders are trying to copy Ukrainian naval drones, which pose a threat to the Russian fleet.

The DIU representative Andriy Yusov explained that the interventionists collected the wreckage of surface UAVs to make the new naval drones.
