Shahed attack on Ukraine on the night of January 5: what is known

The Russian military attacked Ukraine with Shahed drones. At least 10 drones were shot down by Ukrainian forces on the southern front.

Natalia Humeniuk, the head of the joint press centre of the Southern Operational Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said this on the air of the national telethon.

There were military operations in the south. We saw two waves of attacks. The first one lasted three hours. Two hours later, a new wave began. The attack is ongoing, said Humeniuk.

According to her, the work of the Defence Forces against Shahed was effective. The Air Defence Forces were able to destroy at least 10 attack drones in Kherson and Dnipropertovsk, Kirovohrad and Mykolaiv regions.

Unfortunately, there was some shelling. This time the enemy hit agricultural facilities and civilian institutions. These are grain storage sheds and cultural centres. There are wounded people, added Humeniuk.

On 4 January, Russian troops fired several missiles at Ukrainian territory. In particular, Kropyvnytskyi came under fire. The enemy shelled several energy facilities in the city. The attack resulted in casualties.

Also last night, the Russians released several groups of Shaheds into the territory of Ukraine. An air raid alert was declared in a number of southern and central regions.

On 2 January, Russia launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine. Air defence forces managed to shoot down 72 missiles. Most of the missiles — about 60 — were shot down in the Kyiv region. Among them were 10 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles.
