The Air Force denied media reports that Ukraine refused to receive Australian F/A-18 Hornet fighters, calling them "flying trash."
Ukraine allegedly gave up Australian fighter jets
The Australian newspaper Australian Financial Review wrote on January 30 that a top-ranking Ukrainian Air Force official allegedly told the Australians that he was not interested in supplying 41 decommissioned F/A-18 Hornet fighters.
Moreover, the anonymous official allegedly said, "We don't want your flying trash."
It allegedly destroyed the agreement on the supply of F/A-18s, which would "now fly over Ukraine."
Another reason cited by the publication is Ukraine's fear of being unable to cope with two types of foreign fighters since, at that time, Ukraine had already started negotiations with the US and EU countries on the supply of F-16s.
The Air Force's reaction
Air Force spokesman Colonel Yuriy Ignat reacted to one of the posts about this material on Facebook. He said that Ukraine did not conclude an agreement with Australia on the transfer of F/A-18 Hornet fighters.
It is worth noting Ukraine will receive F-16 fighters this year, but there is no exact date yet. Ukraine will receive 42 American F-16 fighter jets from the Netherlands and 19 aircraft from Denmark.
