The ambassadors of the Baltic countries in Warsaw expressed dissatisfaction with the Polish authorities that the truck drivers there blocked the movement of goods on the Polish-Ukrainian border. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia emphasize that in this way, Polish protesters are harming Ukraine's defense against Russia.

The Baltic countries are protesting against the blockade of Ukraine's border

The MFA of Estonia confirmed that this topic was repeatedly raised in communication with Poland.

A meeting/demarche of the ambassadors of the three Baltic countries took place in Warsaw at the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland, said the Estonian MFA Brita Kikas in response to ERR's question about Estonia's attitude to the border blockade.

ERR notes that in diplomacy, a démarche is an approach by one government to another to draw attention to something, often with proposals for specific measures to be taken.

We respect the right of truck drivers to express their opinion. Unfortunately, this led to a difficult situation that creates problems for other carriers and additional difficulties for the Ukrainian economy. We raised this issue with Poland and we hope that a solution will be found in the near future in cooperation between Poland, Ukraine and the European Commission, Kikas added.

According to her, Estonia will continue its efforts to find a solution to the situation with the new Polish government.

Blockade of the border with Ukraine by Polish truckers

Since the beginning of November, Polish truckers have blocked critical checkpoints on the border with Ukraine, demanding the restoration of entry permits for Ukrainian trucks to the European Union.

On December 1, in Warsaw, Ukraine and Poland agreed to open the "Ugryniv — Dolgobychuv" checkpoint to pass empty trucks.

As a result of the blockade of four checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Polish border, the export of goods decreased by 40%.

The Ukrainian state budget lost 9.3 billion hryvnias due to non-payment of customs payments.
