Donald Trump won the Republican primaries in the state of New Hampshire, and the current US President Joe Biden won among the Democrats.

What is known about the primaries results in New Hampshire

Donald Trump got 54% of the vote in New Hampshire, while his primary challenger, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, won 44.5% — or an estimated 88% of the vote.

Haley said she would continue to fight in the presidential race, vowing to run a "breakthrough" campaign in her home state of South Carolina, where the Republican primary will be held next month. After his victory, Trump began his speech by mocking Haley, calling her an "impostor."

President Joe Biden won the Democratic primary despite not campaigning in the state or putting his name on the ballot. This comes after New Hampshire violated new party rules by holding its primary ahead of South Carolina.

Voters manually entered Joe Biden's name in the ballot — about 70% of the 63,000 voters did so.

Contestant Dean Phillips won 20.9% of the vote, while writer Marianne Williamson won 4.3%. Analysts claim that Joe Biden and Donald Trump will be the main competitors in the November 5, 2024 presidential elections.

What is known about the primaries in the USA

Primaries are the first step of elections in the United States in which voters choose presidential candidates from one party or another. Primaries are held in every US state.

The primaries are usually held several months before the general election, which is held in November. The results of the primaries determine who will represent this or that party in the primary election.

A second round of primaries is held if no candidate receives an absolute majority of votes. The two candidates who received the most votes in the first round enter the second round.

The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5, 2024. The two main US political parties participate in them: Democratic and Republican.

By the way, the primary was held in Iowa. Donald Trump won the internal party elections.
