US President Joe Biden met with the leadership of the Congress, representatives of some committees of the House of Representatives. They discussed the urgent need to continue supporting Ukraine.
Biden warned Congress about the pitfalls of inaction on Ukraine
The White House says that during the meeting, Biden stressed the importance of Congress providing Ukraine with the resources it needs, including air defences and artillery, to defend itself against a brutal Russian invasion.
Biden reportedly urged Congress to quickly provide additional funding to support Ukraine and send a strong signal of US resolve.
The White House said in a statement that the president also "made it clear that we must act now to address the challenges at the border" and said he was encouraged by the progress made in the bipartisan negotiations taking place in the Senate.
Aid to Ukraine from the USA
In October 2023, Biden proposed a more than $100 billion national security bill to Congress, including $61 billion for aid to Ukraine.
Republicans want to include in the draft law the strengthening of border and migration measures on the US-Mexico border, so they constantly postpone its adoption.
The U.S. released its latest aid package to Ukraine on December 27 — it included $250 million worth of ammunition for anti-aircraft defences, rocket launchers and artillery, as well as anti-tank weapons and other equipment.
