US President Joe Biden signed the US Defence Policy Act, which provides for annual military spending of $886 billion. This includes assistance to Ukraine.
What is known about the new law signed by Biden
As the publication notes, the law was previously passed by the US Congress and Senate. This document regulates many things: from raising salaries for military personnel and purchasing ships with aircraft to the policy of supporting foreign partners such as Ukraine and Taiwan.
The nearly 3,100-page law provides for a 5.2% increase in military pay and a 3% increase in the overall national security budget to $886 billion.
At the same time, the law extends the Security Assistance Initiative for Ukraine until the end of 2026, which will allow Washington to allocate $300 million for the programme in the fiscal year ending 30 September 2024 and beyond.
Biden found a new way to help Ukraine
Despite the fact that earlier official Washington categorically rejected proposals to confiscate the sovereign assets of the Central Bank of Russia, the situation has changed dramatically.
Right now, the US authorities within the G7 are increasingly trying to figure out whether they can use their existing powers to use these funds or whether they will have to go to Congress.
According to the publication's anonymous sources, the White House also began to put pressure on the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan.
Joe Biden's administration insists on rapidly preparing a strategy for the use of sovereign missiles by 24 February 2024, the second anniversary of the Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
