The ministers of foreign affairs of the EU countries considered the options for using the profits from keeping frozen Russian assets, so the European Union is approaching a joint political decision on this issue.

What is known about the decision to confiscate frozen Russian assets

Regarding blocked Russian assets. We can say that we have political agreement to complete this work based on the proposals we presented in December, with a focus on accruals. At this time, it is about accruals, about interest income, and I am convinced that it will be completed soon, — Borrell said.

According to him, discussions will be continued at the level of ambassadors, but "an agreement is getting closer."

A very strong push for these decisions should be made before the next meeting of the Council of Ministers on Foreign Affairs, — added the high representative of the EU.

The transfer issue of Russia's assets to Ukraine

After the beginning of the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine, the Western countries froze the assets of the aggressor country.

Earlier, the United States of America offered the G7 countries to confiscate $300 billion of frozen Russian assets for the benefit of Ukraine. They want to agree on the corresponding plan before the second anniversary of the large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.

The other day, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, said that the partner countries have come close to solving this issue.

On January 11, it became known that the White House supported the legislation, which would allow the confiscation of about $300 billion from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation and direct these funds to the reconstruction of Ukraine.
