British Foreign Secretary David Cameron compared today's events in the world to the 1930s, but Russian President Vladimir Putin plays the role of Hitler.

Cameron urged not to appease Putin

Speaking on POLITICO's Power Play podcast during an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Cameron said the war in Ukraine remains his "absolute number one priority."

This is the challenge for our generation. This is like being a foreign minister or a leader in Europe in the 1930s, we have got to not appease Putin. We have got to stand up to the evil that his invasion represents, Cameron said.

Politico writes that Cameron's statement came at a time when the West is trying to provide Ukraine with high-tech weapons while preparing for the potential return to the White House of NATO sceptic Donald Trump.

"One thing we can do is demonstrate during the course of this year that Putin isn’t winning", Cameron said.

British Defense Secretary announced the start of the era of the pre-war world

On January 16, British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps delivered a speech at Lancaster House in London.

In it, he announced the beginning of a new era for the world and marked the role of Britain under new conditions.

The era of "peace dividends" is over. In five years, we may witness numerous wars involving Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea. Ask yourself when you look at conflicts around the world: does it look like they will decrease in number? I'm afraid we all know the answer: no, it will definitely grow.

He noted that 2024 could be a decisive year for Ukraine.
