Avdiivka remains the scene of the fiercest fighting on the front. The Ukrainian military conducted several local counterattacks near Stepove toward Avdiivka.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted successful local counterattacks near Avdiivka

According to official data published by Ukraine, about 40 per cent of all combat clashes occurred in the direction of Avdiivka on some days.

Infantry attacks mainly characterize Russian assaults. Storm-Z units are primarily used for assaults.

British intelligence says that Ukrainian forces have conducted a series of successful counterattacks near Stepove.

Ukrainian units have likely conducted successful local counterattacks, denying Russian forces full control of the village of Stepove. It is here that Russia is attempting one part of a pincer movement to envelop Avdiivka and its heavily defended industrial zone, the summary says.

What is the situation in the Avdiivka direction

At the beginning of October, the Russian occupiers intensified the fighting in the Avdiivka area. This offensive is considered the largest since 2014.

According to the Ukrainian command, Russian losses in Avdiivka are more significant than in Bakhmut. According to preliminary data, the occupiers lost more than 10,000 soldiers there.

The Ukrainian military explained that the occupiers would not be able to capture Avdiivka unless they "took" the territory of the Avdiivka coke plant. Currently, the plant is controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

As of the morning of December 9, more than 1,200 people remain in Avdiivka. The biggest problem remains logistics for the city.
