A fighter with the call sign "Makhno" is a fighter of the "Artan" active operations unit of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU). In an interview with online.ua, "Makhno" told how Kyrylo Budanov, DIU chief, behaves with the enemy in critical situations.
DIU fights for the life of each of its soldiers
It's no secret that Kyrylo Budanov not only develops and manages special operations of Ukrainian intelligence, but also quite often takes a direct part in them.
According to the “Makhno”, during one of the operations, a fighter from a neighboring unit was captured. Having taken his radio station, the comrades immediately reported this to the headquarters.
The soldiers of the Russian Federation wanted to exchange a captured Ukrainian soldier for the opportunity to get out of the encirclement alive.
What is important to understand is that they were in positions whose coordinates were known to a special unit that could eliminate them with artillery.
"Makhno" emphasizes: the ideology of DIU is to think about every person and to win back every person, to fight for the lives of soldiers.
That's why at first the commanders said: "why do we need those bastards, let them hand over our soldier and let them go from there," recalls the "Artan" soldier.
Budanov never abandons his soldiers
However, the situation changed dramatically, when the Kyrylo Budanov, who was at the control post at the time, found out about everything.
He took the radio station and started negotiations with the occupiers.
According to “Makhno”, DIU chief quickly found the right approach to the Russians:
So yes, you're not going anywhere. We have all your positions. We are now covering you with arta, if suddenly something happens to our boy. I have no other option for you to offer: you give us our man and surrender. Otherwise, we will turn everything into ashes right there and you will not be able to get out. As "Makhno" guesses, Budanov's words had an immediate effect, as the Russian soldiers immediately "put on their pants", surrendered and handed over the Ukrainian fighter.
After this incident, the soldier "Artan" realized that Lieutenant General Budanov is a person with a cold mind who does not give in to emotions.
