The Bulgarian government has started supplying Ukraine with the promised armoured personnel carrier (APC). A total of 110 APCs will be sent.
Ukraine to receive APCs from Bulgaria shortly
According to the publication, the first armoured personnel carrier was loaded onto the platform and departed from the base of the General Directorate of the Gendarmerie in Sofia to the railway station in Novi Iskar.
110 APCs will be sent to Ukraine in total. The Ministry of Defence is responsible for their transfer.
Their shipping started today and will be shipped in sets of six.
These armoured personnel carriers were produced in the 1960s and 1970s. Bulgaria's internal forces purchased them at the time, but these APCs are not used and are no longer needed.
What is known about Bulgaria's aid to Ukraine
From the first days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, Bulgaria has been providing Ukraine with various assistance. Thus, the Bulgarian parliament voted behind closed doors to supply unserviceable S-300 missiles to Ukraine.
In July last year, it became known that Bulgaria can provide Ukraine with about 100 APCs from the warehouses of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In Dec. 2023, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev vetoed the free provision of armoured vehicles to Ukraine.
However, the Bulgarian National Assembly later overrode President Rumen Radev's veto regarding the supply of APCs to Ukraine.
Recently, it became known that Bulgaria is delaying the delivery of 100 APCs to Ukraine, as the Ministry of Defence has asked NATO to cover transport costs.
In the latest package of military aid to Kyiv, the Bulgarian authorities promised weapons that Bulgaria has had since the USSR time as S-300 missile launchers spare parts, old S-300 missiles, APVs, rounds, mortars and other equipment.
