Lorry drivers in Poland are preparing to block the checkpoints on border with Ukraine again

Polish lorry drivers' protest

Polish lorry drivers intend to block the recently unblocked Yahodyn-Dorohusk border crossing with Ukraine again.

What is known about plans of Polish drivers to extend the blockade on border with Ukraine

According to Serhiy Derkach, the Deputy Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, rapid and coordinated work to normalise the situation on the border with Poland and other neighbouring countries is necessary to preserve the Ukrainian economy.

This year, it is the third blockade of the border, which is taking place exclusively on the Polish side, it is a habit — to block traffic and thus demand something from their government or the European Commission, and these issues do not always concern Ukraine, Derkach said.

According to him, Ukraine respects the right to protest, but not by blocking the state border.

What is known about plans to block the largest checkpoint on border with Ukraine

In addition, Derkach noted that Polish carriers may try to block the Yahodyn-Dorohusk checkpoint again on 18 December. This is due to the fact that a court in Poland has cancelled the ban on strike action by local authorities.

In Poland, there is a court decision. It was a court decision to cancel the decision of the local authorities to prevent a new strike, meaning that the cancellation made by the head of the community is valid and has not been cancelled. But there was a new application by the protesters to start a strike on 18 November, and the authorities rejected it. It was this rejection that the court cancelled. Therefore, theoretically, a new strike could start again on 18 December at the Yagodyn checkpoint. This is the largest checkpoint, and over the past few days we have managed to establish effective work there, Derkach said.
