As CNN has learned, more than 130 employees of the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are demanding that US President Joe Biden's team immediately facilitate a ceasefire in Gaza, where Israel is trying to destroy Hamas terrorists.

Pressure on Biden increases in the US over the situation in Gaza

American journalists found a letter addressed by the signatories to the head of the United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas.

We join our colleagues on Capitol Hill, USAID, the State Department, and other executive agencies who have expressed similar concerns, urging the Biden administration to call for an immediate ceasefire and fighting, the letter reads.

It is worth noting that it is not yet known who signed the letter, but it is indicated that these officials work for several federal agencies that are part of the department, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.

According to 260,000 DHS employees, they decided to sign the appeal to Joe Biden's team anonymously because they were really concerned about personal safety and the risk of professional repercussions.

We are deeply concerned about the ministry's recognition, support and mourning for the Palestinians who have been killed in Gaza.

In addition, the signatories criticised the DHS for "turning a blind eye" to the bombing of Gaza.

The DHS has been a silent witness to the famine that Palestinians are experiencing as critical food supplies have reached dangerously low levels... We must act urgently to save as many lives as possible and reach an immediate, permanent ceasefire and the return of all hostages, the letter said.

How the US authorities comment on the situation in Gaza

A few days ago, US President Joe Biden's national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, called on official Tel Aviv to end its large-scale ground campaign in Gaza and finally launch a more targeted phase of the war against the Hamas terrorist group.

In addition, the head of the United States Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, questioned Israel's efforts to protect civilians in Gaza during the military operation against the Hamas terrorist group.

Also recently, the Israeli Minister of Defence, Yoav Gallant, called the mistaken execution of Hamas hostages by Israeli troops "terrible".
