According to Western publications, the chances of the US Congress approving President Joe Biden's request to finance aid to Ukraine decrease with every day of delay. In this case, the key role passes to the European partners of Ukraine.

Will European partners be able to take on the leadership role in helping Ukraine

According to the journalists of the publication, amid continuing disputes in the US Congress regarding the strengthening of measures on the border with Mexico in exchange for the approval of aid to Ukraine, Great Britain remains the most loyal supporter of aid to Ukraine.

Just recently, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak paid a visit to Kyiv and announced the allocation of an aid package in the amount of more than 3 billion dollars.

The United Kingdom is also the first Western ally to sign a security agreement with Ukraine that provides long-term arms supplies. France is preparing a similar agreement, the publication says.

Will Germany be able to become the EU leader in helping Ukraine

According to the authors of the publication, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has repeatedly emphasized Germany's assumption of a leadership role among EU countries.

However, German journalist Gesine Dornbluth points out that although the German government can indeed boast of the second largest amount of aid to Ukraine after the United States, such claims remain very relative.

If you look at the economic indicators of the country, you will see that German aid per capita is less than in some Baltic countries, — Dornbluth notes.

The article notes that at the end of January, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced his intention to finalize an agreement with Ukraine on security guarantees, but did not specify the exact dates.

Meanwhile, at the end of last year, the German government promised to double aid to Ukraine this year.

Yes, the amount of aid increased to 8 billion euros.

In addition, the German Ministry of Defense promised to transfer 6 decommissioned Sea King Mk41 military helicopters to Ukraine.

So far, Ukraine has managed to receive several such "birds" from Britain.

Meanwhile, as Gezine Dornbluth points out, Ukraine's receipt of these helicopters is good news, but it is not enough.

The journalist emphasizes that, in fact, Germany is not ready for a significant increase in aid to Ukraine, as the German military does not have sufficient reserves.

At the same time, new defense orders for the production of weapons and ammunition were not placed ahead of time.

At the same time, there are weapons in Germany's warehouses that Berlin is simply not ready to hand over. Taurus missiles, for example. Scholz reasoned, among other things, that possible Ukrainian attacks deep into Russian territory could lead to a dangerous escalation of the war, the authors of the publication emphasize.

At the same time, Dornbluth declares that the arguments of Chancellor Olaf Scholz are unconvincing, because currently Ukraine keeps its promises and does not use Western weapons to attack the Russian Federation.

But according to Andreas Umland, an analyst at the Stockholm Center for East European Studies, the return of Donald Trump to the post of US president will cause serious problems in Ukraine, but this does not mean that the EU country will refuse aid.

If Russia broke through the front, it would lead to millions of refugees from Ukraine to the EU. Therefore, Kyiv can count on its support, including due to its own EU interests, Umland explains.
