A hacker attack on Kyivstar mobile operator on 12 December led to the shutdown of the airborne warning system in Kyiv region.

Air raid alarm warning system does not work in Kyiv region

A malfunction at Kyivstar mobile operator resulted in the failure of the airborne warning system in the Kyiv region.

Ruslan Kravchenko, the head of Kyiv Regional Military Administration (KRMA), announced this on Facebook.

The warning system is not working in Bucha, Irpin, Vyshneve, Berezan, Skvyra, Rzhyshchev, Tarashcha, Volodarka and Hirska territorial community (the Boryspil district). There are also point disconnections of the warning system in Boryspil and 75 other settlements. In all these settlements, the air raid alert signal is duplicated by another warning system.

Thus, the crews of the Patrol Police and the State Emergency Service will report airborne hazards via loudspeakers.

In addition, there are "Invincibility Points" in the Kyiv region equipped with Wi-Fi access points. Residents of the capital region can connect to the Internet there.

The Kyiv RMA is taking all measures to ensure that residents of the region receive timely information about the Air Alert signal, despite the interruptions in the work of the Kyivstar mobile operator, Kravchenko wrote.

Cyber attack on Kyivstar: what are the consequences

On 12 December, a hacker attack caused large-scale disruptions in Kyivstar's operations.

In this regard, the alarm notification system is temporarily out of service in the Sumy city territorial community.

Unlike Sumy and Boryspil, the failure of Kyivstar will not affect the air raid alarm warning system in Kyiv.
