Russia buys Starlink terminals in Arab countries. This is evidenced by the interception of the occupiers' conversation, which the Defenсe Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) received.
Where does Starlink appear to the Russians on the front lines
Ukrainian military intelligence has intercepted a conversation between two Russian invaders, one complaining about poor internet connection on the front line. Another tells him that some of their fellows are fine with communications because they have a Starlink satellite terminal and suggests that their unit raise funds to purchase one.
The cost of purchasing a Starlink device is 200,000 rubles (over 83,000 hryvnias).
What preceded it
The American publication Defense One recently reported that Russia is using SpaceX Starlink satellite devices on the front in Ukraine.
According to one of the anonymous sources of the publication, the Ukrainian troops first recorded the use of satellite communication by Russia on the front lines several months ago. Another source noted that the Russians are increasingly using Starlink on the front lines.
Pentagon spokesman Jeff Jurgensen said US officials are aware of the Russian use of Starlink, but have referred questions to "our Ukrainian partners for any ongoing operational information regarding similar satellite communications activity."
In a February 8 tweet, SpaceX officials said the company “does not do any business with the Russian government or its military. Starlink does not work in Russia, that is, the service will not work in this country. SpaceX has never sold or sold Starlink in Russia, nor has it shipped equipment to Russia."
But the Russians, writes Defense One, can easily obtain Starlink from abroad through third parties.
As a reminder, Starlink allows front-line military personnel to create high-bandwidth mobile communications networks for use in operations centers and to coordinate artillery strikes, among other tasks.
