The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his speech at the meeting of the European Council, said that the indecision of the leaders of the European Union at the EU summit will be a victory for the Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin.

What Zelenskyy said during his speech at the summit

On December 14, the President of Ukraine addressed the EU leaders via video link at the invitation of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.

It is very important that Europe does not fall into indecision today. No one wants Europe to be seen as unworthy. Or as an inability to make decisions that she prepared herself, the head of state said.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine has completed its homework from the EU and adopted laws, thereby fulfilling the recommendations of the European Commission.

He called on EU leaders not to give Russia a chance to use Europe's determination towards Ukraine.

People in Europe will not see any benefit if Moscow gets a pass from Brussels in the form of negativity towards Ukraine. Putin will surely use this against you personally and against all of Europe. Don't give him this first — and only — win of the year. Europe must win, agreements must be observed, and words must have meaning, the president emphasized.

Zelenskyy also recalled that during the Revolution of Dignity, Ukrainians marched to the centre of Kyiv under the flags of the European Union.

10 years ago, people in Ukraine rose up under the flags of the European Union... I am asking you today for one thing — do not betray the people and their faith in Europe. If nobody believes in Europe, what will keep the European Union alive?, he added.

Summit of EU leaders

On December 14, the EUleaders' summits started in Brussels. Several issues related to Ukraine will be discussed at it.

The beginning of negotiations on joining the EU, as well as the provision of €50 billion of economic support and the allocation of another €20 billion for the Ukrainian army. In addition, a new package of sanctions against Russia is on the agenda.

It is known that Hungary will block Ukraine's support, especially regarding its accession to the EU. Negotiations were held with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, during which the summit was postponed.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, did not attend the summit of EU leaders, but, as is known, he addressed the EU online.
