Drones attack an aircraft repair plant in Russian Smolensk region

In the Smolensk region of the Russian Federation, drones attacked an aircraft repair plant. The enterprise is engaged in the production and repair of weapons, aviation and military equipment.

What is known about the drone attack in the Smolensk region of the Russian Federation

According to sources, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is behind the attack.

As reported by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the first attack was around midnight. One drone was shot down over Tobi region. Later, the department added that three more drones were shot down over the territory of the Smolensk region at about half past two in the morning local time.

Three unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed over the territory of the Smolensk region by means of air defense, the report said, blaming Ukraine for the attack.

There is an aircraft factory in the Smolensk region. In October 2023, it was attacked by drones, it was also an operation of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense. The GUR announced an attack on the Smolensk Aviation Plant, as a result of which the production process of Kh-59 missiles of various modifications was disrupted.

It is known from open sources that the Smolensk Aviation Plant produces Kh-59 missiles of various modifications of the "air-to-surface" class. The Russians often bombard Ukraine with these missiles.

Explosions in the Leningrad region

At the same time, on the night of January 21, a terminal of the Russian gas company Novatek caught fire in the port of Ust-Luga, Leningrad region.

All port personnel were evacuated. The governor of the region, Drozdenko, said that a high alert regime was introduced in the Kingisepp district, and the head of the district leads a meeting of the operational headquarters.

He did not specify the cause of the fire in the port.

It should be noted that "Novatek" is the largest independent producer of natural gas in Russia.

The Shcheglovsky Val plant in Tula was also attacked that night. Anti-aircraft missile complexes "Pantsir-S" and "Pantsir-S1" are produced there.

According to sources, this was planned work of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
