The Commander-in-Chief of the Dutch Army, Martin Wijnen, who is resigning shortly, said that the country's society should prepare for war with Russia.

The Dutch army commander warned of a possible war with Russia

In an interview with De Telegraaf, Wijnen said that more reservists and volunteers are needed to deal with such a conflict.

The Netherlands must understand that the whole society must be prepared if things go wrong... The Netherlands must not think that our safety is guaranteed because we are 1,500 kilometers away.

He said this means preparing food and drinking water supplies for civilians in an emergency.

The Netherlands wants to increase the number of volunteers in the army

Wijnen said that the Netherlands should follow the examples of such countries as Sweden, Finland, and the Baltic states. Countries bordering Russia or are close to it are better prepared for the war outbreak.

According to Wijnen, the Netherlands should recruit two to three thousand volunteers for a year of service in the army.

After that, they can be available as reservists. The first set of 125 volunteers started work in September.

Voinen warned that Russia is getting stronger and a strong army is needed as a deterrent.

There is only one language that Russia understands, and that is the language of a strong army, he said.
