Radio Freedom correspondent Rikard Jozwiak reported on Feb.27.

At the plenary meeting on February 27, the decision was adopted with 536 votes in favor. 40 European MPs were against, and 39 abstained.

What preceded it

On February 1, EU leaders overcame Hungary's long-standing opposition and agreed to allocate macro-financial assistance to Ukraine for €50 billion. The program is designed for four years.

The profile committees of the European Parliament supported the decision to create an assistance program on February 22.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that the EU expects to provide the first funds to Ukraine in March.

The government previously stated that Ukraine expects to receive the first tranche of macro-financial support from the EU for €4.5 billion within the framework of the Ukraine Facility program in March.

The European Parliament must approve the document at the plenary session scheduled for February 26-29, 2024.

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that Ukraine wants to receive €18 billion in the program's first two years.
