Ex-Supreme Court Chief Knyazev was found guilty of receiving an expensive gift

The Pechersk District Court of Kyiv found the ex-Supreme Court Chief Vsevolod Knyazev guilty of violating restrictions on receiving gifts.

Knyazev rented an apartment in Lypky for UAH 1,000 per month

The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption reports that the court ordered Knyazev to pay a fine of UAH 2,550 and confiscated a gift of UAH 906,600.

It is noted that according to Chapter 2 of Article 23 of the Law of Ukraine "On Prevention of Corruption", judges are prohibited from accepting gifts whose value exceeds two subsistence minimums for workable persons.

Knyazev violated this ban and received a gift by renting an apartment in the Pechersk district (Lypki) of Kyiv with an area of 133 m2 at a price significantly lower than the minimum market price for renting a house.

On the basis of a real estate lease agreement concluded at the end of 2017, the judge rented an apartment for living with a monthly payment of UAH 1,000.

The Vsevolod Knyazev case: what is known

In May 2023, SACPO and NABU announced the exposure of large-scale corruption in the Supreme Court of Ukraine.

Supreme Court Chief Vsevolod Knyazev was suspected of receiving a bribe. A lawyer who was an intermediary in providing a bribe also had a suspicion.

According to the investigation, the lawyer acted as a mediator between the chairman of the Supreme Court and a businessman who wanted to resolve the issue in court.

During March-April 2023, the businessman transferred $2.7 million to the lawyer to transfer the money to Knyazev for the necessary decision.

On April 19, 2023, the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the businessman.

While receiving the second tranche of the bribe, Knyazev and the lawyer were exposed.
