As Reuters was able to find out, the supply of natural pipeline gas to Europe by Russia's Gazprom in 2023 was reduced by 55.6%.

A record drop in Russian gas exports to Europe was recorded

British journalists decided to analyze the data of the European gas transport group Entsog and Gazprom's daily reports on gas transit through Ukraine.

As a result, it became clear that pipeline export of Russian gas to Europe decreased from 174.8 to 77.6 million m3 last year.

According to experts, the main reason for the reduction is Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

It is essential to understand that the calculations do not include liquefied natural gas because its supply, on the contrary, grew.

At its peak, in 2018-2019, annual deliveries of Russian gas to Europe reached 175-180 billion cubic meters. On the other hand, according to Gazprom data and Reuters calculations, in 2022, Russia delivered a total of about 63.8 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe via various routes.

The EU voted to extend emergency energy measures in 2024

On December 19, it became officially known that the Ministers of Energy of the European Union countries were able to agree on the extension of three regulations on energy issues, adopted as emergency measures against the background of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Official Brussels reported that the first regulation provides for coordinating natural gas purchases and assistance of EU member states to each other in case of need.

The second regulation aims to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy infrastructure.

The third regulation on the mechanism of market correction of energy prices, designed to prevent their excessive fluctuations, has been extended without changes until January 31, 2025.
