The Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) reduced bail for former Supreme Court Chief Vsevolod Kniazev, suspected of bribery, from ₴27 million to ₴20 million. However, he remains in custody.
Kniazev's bail was reduced again
From the broadcast of the court session, it became known that the lawyers asked for 24-hour house arrest for Kniazev, referring to his "exemplary behavior" and state of health.
They also requested a reduction in the bail amount. The panel of judges partially granted the appeal, reducing the bail to ₴20 million.
Kniazev's bail has been reduced for the sixth time. The initial amount of the pledge was ₴107,360,000.
On December 5, the HACC decided to keep Kniazev in custody until February 2, 2024.
Vsevolod Kniazev’s case: what is known
On 15 May, the former head of the Supreme Court, Vsevolod Kniazev, was found guilty of large-scale corruption. He and his lawyer accomplice were charged with bribery.
The Chief of the Supreme Court and the lawyer were caught red-handed while receiving the second tranche of a $450,000 bribe. Investigators documented the transfer and receipt of $1.8 million in two tranches.
According to the investigation, the lawyer acted as an intermediary between the Chief of the Supreme Court and a businessman who wanted to resolve an issue in court.
Between March and April 2023, the businessman transferred $2.7 million to the lawyer so that he could pass the money on to Kniazev to make the necessary decision.
On 19 April 2023, the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the businessman.
