General Syrskyi said that Ukraine has new tasks on the agenda today, in particular:

  • clear and detailed planning of the actions of all military administration bodies, associations, connections and units, taking into account the needs of the front in the latest weapons, which come from our allies;

  • the fastest and most rational distribution of military supplies remains the main task of military logistics;

  • the life and health of service members are the central values of the army. Maintaining a balance between the performance of combat tasks and the restoration of units and units with the intensification of training and training of personnel remains more relevant than ever;

  • the introduction of new technical solutions and the scaling of successful experiences, such as, for example, the use of UAV systems and modern means of EW warfare, are some of the future vectors of the victory;

Only changes and constant improvement of the means and methods of warfare will make it possible to achieve success on this path. But, of course, a reliable rear is one of the main components of overall success in the war, — noted Syrskyi.

What is known about Syrskyi's appointment as the new AFU Commander-in-Chief

On February 8, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, announced the decision to dismiss Gen Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Instead of him, Col Gen Oleksandr Syrskyi was appointed as the new commander-in-chief.

In the media and in the West, Oleksandr Syrskyi, who until recently led the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, is called the face of the Ukrainian counteroffensive.

Since the beginning of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine in 2014, Syrskyi became the head of the ATO headquarters.

He participated in battles near Debaltseve, in Vuglehirsk, Ridkodub and Logvynove villages. He also took part in withdrawing Ukrainian troops from the encirclement in Debaltseve.

Since 2016, he has headed the Joint Operational Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which coordinates the operational actions of Ukrainian military formations in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

In 2017, Syrskyi became the commander of the entire anti-terrorist operation, which was later changed to Operation of the United Forces.

From the first days of the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation, Oleksandr Syrskyi led the defense of Kyiv. He believes that it was possible to protect the capital thanks to careful planning.

For the successful defence of Kyiv, Oleksandr Syrskyi was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi of the II degree. On April 5, 2022, he was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.

In the future, Syrskyi became the commander of the Eastern group of troops of the OSTG "Khortytsia", which is responsible for the section of the front in the Kharkiv, Izyum, Lyman, Lysychan, Kurakhove, Kupiansk, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Vugledar directions.

Oleksandr Syrskyi planned a counteroffensive operation in the Kharkiv region in the fall of 2022. The enemy was preparing for defense in the Kherson direction, so the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the territories of the Kharkiv region were a surprise for him.
