General Staff: Ukraine inflicts significant losses on the Russian army on the left bank of the Dnipro River

On 5 January, 56 combat engagements took place at the frontline. The Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) are successfully holding back the enemy, despite constant shelling, and destroying Russian army personnel and equipment.

It is reported that the Russian occupiers carried out 3 missile and 16 air strikes.

In addition, it is emphasised that 12 hostile attacks from multiple launch rocket systems on the positions of the AFU and populated areas were recorded.

In the Kupyansk sector, Ukrainian defence forces repelled seven hostile attacks near Synkivka in the Kharkiv region.

In the Bakhmut sector, Ukrainian defence forces repelled three attacks near Klishchiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy tried to break through the defences of our troops. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Vasyukivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Andriivka and Nyzhyk in the Donetsk region.

According to the General Staff of the AFU, in the Avdiivka sector, Ukrainian troops managed to repel three enemy attacks in the areas of Novobakhmutivka and Avdiivka, and another 16 attacks near Pervomayske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.

In the Mariupol sector, Ukrainian defence forces continue to hold back the occupants near Maryinka, Pobyeda and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region.

What is known about new successes of Ukrainian army on the battlefield

According to Ukrainian soldiers, the enemy has not abandoned their PLANS to knock our units out of their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro river.

Thus, the enemy carried out 10 unsuccessful assaults during the day, but Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold their positions and inflict significant losses on the occupiers.

In addition, it is emphasised that on 5 January, Ukrainian pilots struck at 5 places of concentration of enemy forces.

Missile troops hit the enemy's control centre, ammunition depot and artillery.
