The commander of the Tavria operational-strategic group, Brigadier General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, admits that 2024 may be more difficult in terms of military operations.

2024 may be more difficult

In an interview with BBC Ukraine, Tarnavskyi answered questions about his expectations and forecasts for 2024. Tarnavskyi admited that next year may be more challenging.

I think that next year will probably be even harder. Because we have to liberate our territories and put an end to hostilities. And the closer we get to fulfilling this task and reaching our borders, the harder it will be. The enemy is aware of this and will do everything to prevent us from fulfilling this task. That is why I say that the year will be difficult.

He was also asked whether it was realistic to end the war next year.

I never raise the question of "ending the war". The question is to win. Because there are different ways to end a war. For us, the military, it is a victory.

The situation with the armament of the Ukrainian military

Tarnavskyi says that a major problem today is the lack of almost all types of ammunition.

The issue of ammunition for 122-mm and 152-mm artillery systems is very acute. I would also like to draw attention to the fact that the enemy, knowing our capabilities in terms of range, has deployed its artillery units at a critical distance — where we cannot influence its actions.

The Russians are also rapidly developing electronic warfare capabilities that make it impossible to use precision weapons over long distances.

Another pressing issue is the supply of anti-aircraft missile systems such as Stormer, Avenger, and Stinger.

In order to continue offensive assault operations, we would like to have the means to clear areas of mines. You know, no matter how many of them there are now, it is not enough.
