The State Security Service of Georgia announced that it allegedly detained a cargo with six explosive devices that were being transported from Odessa to the Russian Voronezh "to carry out terrorist attacks."
A car with explosives on its way to Voronezh was detained in Georgia
Georgian special services said they seized six units of special explosive devices and a large amount of explosives, which were allegedly transported from Odesa to Georgia through Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey on January 19, 2024.
The car that transported the explosives allegedly belongs to a citizen of Ukraine.
According to the Georgian special service, the customer later changed the decision: one container with three explosives was to be taken to Voronezh, and the second container with three explosive devices was left in Tbilisi at a specific address.
Who is involved in importing explosives?
Seven Georgians, three Ukrainians and two Armenians are allegedly involved in the importation of explosives. The organiser of this, according to the State Security Service of Georgia, was a citizen of Ukraine Andriy Sharashidze, a candidate for the Odesa district local council from the Servant of the People party, originally from Batumi.
He allegedly actively controlled the movement of explosive devices from outside Georgia. The investigation also found that other people were probably unaware of the explosive devices and detonator capsules stored in the car.
Georgia suspects that the use of Georgian territory and the significant involvement of Georgian citizens in this process indicate that they wanted to accuse the country of terrorist acts that could allegedly be carried out with this explosive.
