Germany advocated the transfer of control over the territory of the Gaza Strip to the control of the United Nations after the end of Israel's military operation against the terrorists of the Palestinian group Hamas.

Can the UN gain control of Gaza after the fighting ends?

However, both the Palestinians and some EU diplomats have serious doubts about the feasibility of this idea, and a high-ranking Palestinian figure in Europe called it "unacceptable," the publication notes.

The journalists emphasize that the discussion on how to increase the volume of humanitarian aid for the residents of Gaza and stop hostilities in the territory of the enclave continues.

Further scenarios after the end of hostilities are also being discussed.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said last month that an "effective and renewed Palestinian Authority" should eventually govern Gaza but offered no guidance on how to make it "effective".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier said his country would assume "overall responsibility for security" in Gaza "for an indefinite period."

The publication notes that representatives of Germany voiced their proposal on October 21, even before the decision of the military-political leadership of Israel to start the second stage of the military operation against Hamas militants in Gaza.

What is known about the future scenarios of Gaza

Five different scenarios for the future of the Gaza Strip are proposed, including Israel regaining control of the Gaza Strip and control being taken over by either the Palestinian Authority or Egypt.

The UN script is also on the list.

According to Berlin, this scenario means "the internationalization of Gaza under the auspices of the UN (and regional partners)" with a carefully organized transition to Palestinian self-government, ideally through elections and in conjunction with an international coalition agreement that provides the necessary security.
