Vladimir Khavinson, the chief gerontologist of St. Petersburg and director of the Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, has died in Russia. He received awards from Putin for "slowing down ageing".

Putin's gerontologist dies in Russia

Khavinson was the director of the St Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. In 2017, Putin awarded him the Order of Friendship for developing drugs that allegedly slow down aging.

Khavinson invented hundreds of drugs, the origin of which is similar to homeopathy: for liver diseases — proteins from the liver, for retinal diseases — extracts from animal eyes.

Vasyl Vlasov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, president of the Association of Evidence-Based Medicine Specialists, believes that Khavinson's main idea was to get a lot of money.

One such mechanism is to use the idea that ageing can be stopped. In a country with an ageing bureaucracy, in a country with an ageing leadership, there is a lot of interest in anti-ageing ideas. Stalin, the bloody executioner, also invested in preventing ageing.

Social media reacted to the news with jokes: "How long will the patient live if the longevity expert lived 77 years? With so many [Putin] doppelgangers, it doesn't matter."

Khavinson predicted Putin's life expectancy

In 2017, Khavinson predicted that the Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has been in office since 2000, could continue to serve for at least another 20 years.

Given his background (active sports), healthy lifestyle, military training, diet, as far as I know, and physical education, his potential is very high. Putin's potential is brilliant. Decades have passed. Twenty years is the minimum," Khavinson said.

At the same time, he stated that his prognosis was supposedly independent, and not because the doctor was "afraid of anyone". It's just that Putin, according to Khavinson, is a "model". As a reminder, Putin turned 71 in October 2023.
