According to the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, even if one child abducted by Russia is returned per day, it will take at least 55 years to return all children.
What is known about the prospects for the return of abducted Ukrainian children from Russia
During his speech at a meeting of the International Coalition of 72 countries and international organisations, Lubinets noted that Russia has been abducting Ukrainian children since 2014.
The Ombudsperson stressed that the Russian occupiers launched the "Train of Hope" programme to justify their own criminal actions.
He noted that it would take Ukraine at least 55 years to return all of the children abducted by Russia if it started returning one abducted child a day.
The Ombudsman stressed that Kremlin propagandists create and broadcast false stories about the alleged "evacuation", "rescue" and "rehabilitation" of abducted Ukrainian children.
However, things must be called what they are, because the deportation of children is genocide and a war crime.
In particular, during the meeting, Lubinets called for effective steps, namely:
recognition of Russia's actions as a crime of genocide;
new arrest warrants for those responsible for the deportation of Ukrainian children;
providing access to lists of all deported and displaced children;
checking and updating data on deported or displaced children;
opening humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians;
creation of rehabilitation centers for returned children.
