Andriy "Lyudoid" Limontov, a soldier of the "Shaman" special unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, spoke in an exclusive interview to online.ua about the attitude of the military to life and death.
Sometimes the probability of returning from the task is not very high
I'll say it like it is: the last time I wore a bandage with tape was last year. You don't wear it, because you understand that there will be no one there except you. There are situations when something doesn't go according to plan, and your or adjacent units or another group gets into, let's say, some trouble. And in order for them to be able to get out, you have to take the fire on yourself.
For example, there are four or five of us simulating an assault VOP . There is a video where he sews my jacket with a machine gun. This is so that our boys can leave. Everything was planned. These are coordinated actions. But there are such things that you need to be flexible.
And I [had] emotions when all the guys came back alive. Because it was such a difficult story, when it flies, you are right when they shout: "The situation?" — and I run like an idiot and think about how to assemble the frame.
Funny situations from the front
Of the funny situations, I remember, we had to go for a walk. And in order to pass through some extreme positions, we needed a guide who would tell us on the walkie-talkie that we were leaving and so on. And he never went so far in his service.
Such stories happen when people do more than usual when working with us. They are the coolest and happiest at this moment.
This is a kind of usual situation when you are walking, for example, an extreme position, and you have to go further for five kilometers. And they say: "Everything is delayed right away, guys!" And we: "Okay," and left. And they look and then are very surprised to see you when you turn back.
